The Christmas Light

It’s that time of year again when families get together to celebrate Christmas. For such a wonderful time of year I’m surprised by how stressed people get for the preparations. Isn’t Christmas or any religious holiday about reflection, repentance, gratitude, joy, generosity, hearts full of love, friends, family, children, and peace? Most of us are so blessed with these precious gifts from God and yet we take them for granted! Hustle, bustle, push, shove!

Horns honking, cash registers dinging, shopping carts colliding, raised voices, crying little ones and huge lineups for everything and the price of anything is beyond reasonable! Even the dollar store prices are “out to lunch”. Just stop, wait and breathe for a second …..

Do you see…
The war vet with PTSD….
The child who is shivering without boots or mitts ….
People who can’t afford rent and are homeless ….
People who are fresh out of jail and can’t get employment ….
The young family with looking visibly hungry with hardly any groceries in their cart….
Those with mental health issues living with nine other people in a 800 square foot rooming house ….

Parents let us be mindful to teach our children to be empathetic and loving towards their fellow man rather than entitled consumers. As we celebrate this Holy season remember:

“Somedays you will be a light for others, and someday they may be a light for you

As long as there is light, there is hope AND THERE IS A WAY!”
